Peggy Sawyer is a chorus girl who must take over as the star of the show on short notice when the lead performer is injured. She has has exactly thirty-six hours to learn twenty-five pages, six songs, and ten dance numbers, songs such as You're Getting To Be a Habit With Me, We're In the Money, Lullaby of Broadway, About a Quarter To Nine and Shuffle Off To Buffalo As the director Julian Marsh says, "...Sawyer, you're going out there a youngster but you've got to come back a star!"
